The tired old saw from George Santayana’s work The Life of Reason that: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” better be applied fast while we still have a functioning country. The NOQ Report News Update recently sat down with David Rubin to talk Socialism.
It may seem odd to discuss that topic with the former mayor of a small town in Israel but he’s dealt with socialism, socialists and the consequences that Marxist policies had in Israel when it embraced socialism for three long decades.
A humorous point of departure for the interview is the fact that David Rubin, author of Confronting Radicals: What America Can Learn from Israel and Bernie Sanders actually have at least something in common but not much!
While America is plunging into socialism we should pause to hear his thoughts on the welfare state and his reaction to Black Lives Matter and the effects of slavery and how to face its aftermath. On this latter topic we should heed what Rubin stated and tell Black Americans to be inspired by personal struggle towards betterment and not collective protest:
“We were slaves in Egypt and we were victims of that slavery. [There are] lessons to be learned from that as well. We never forget about it. We talk about it every day. It’s in our prayers. It’s in our DNA that we were slaves. So in that sense I understand some Black Americans who have that feeling. Indeed it’s in their DNA as well, this whole issue of slavery. However our response to slavery was never to lash out ….We got out of Egypt and we moved into the land of Israel and we started a new life. We raked the land, we planted trees we did everything we needed to do to build up the land of Israel.”
Americans must confront the foolishness of socialism and its battering ram-Black Lives Matter aggressively with guts. Israel was saved, economically in the 1980’s thanks to the reforms of Menachem Begin and the crucial backing of Ronald Reagan.
America is now on its own. Our back is against the wall and its time for all hands on deck to fight Marxist ideology hell bent on revolution.
