Bill Martinez Live sat down with L Brent Bozell III to discuss media malpractice, the Left and growing up right. Bozell is the founder of The Media Research Center, The Parents Television Council and CNSNews and is author of the newly released book Stops Along the Way: A Catholic Soul, a Conservative Heart, an Irish Temper, and a Love of Life and of Weapons of Mass Distortion: The Coming Meltdown of the Liberal Media. When asked about the state of journalism today, Bozell quipped:
“…you cant have a free government without a free media, first. You can’t have a functioning democracy if the electorate, those who participate, in the Democratic Party, have information withheld from it.”
Bozell also detailed a survey conducted among Democrat voters who had voted for Biden in battleground states who were asked if they knew about Hunter Biden’s sleazy laptop; about robust expansion in the economy to the tune of 31% GDP increase in the third quarter; if they were aware of American energy independence attained under Trump and if they realized that Kamala Harris were more left wing than Bernie Sanders.
To every question, 50% of the Democrats responded that they hadn’t known about these matters and that if they had they would not have voted for Biden. Unfortunately these voters were getting their “news” from the mainstream media. Trump would have won in a landslide had they known (and, I suppose, the voter fraud wasn’t widespread enough). The mainstream media were guilty, in 2020 to sins of media commission and omission. This is to say unrelenting negative news 80%+ of the time and omitting accomplishments.
In Bozell’s book Stops Along the Way, Bozell discusses his upbringing being one of ten children growing up in rural Virginia and attending high school in Spain at a monastery in El Escorial under the stern eye of monks who had no problem dispensing corporal punishment judiciously and, occasionally plentifully, kneeling on a hard floor for a while or worse if the infraction merited it.
This book is one of reflection as well as a recounting of rich escapades full of lessons for young people today who have been over protected by helicopter parenting meant to protect kids from the slightest injury. Bozell began to smoke and drink at a young age but also learned to be independent and to work hard and to absorb the Christian culture of Spain free of electronic gadgets of every type.
Bozell’s book is an entertaining book that calls American conservatives to rethink adolescence, parenting, family size (generosity, fortitude and simplicity can be best learned in large families) and culture remembering that politics is downstream from all of it.
The time is now to remake American culture to form kids who are well read; virtuous, practiced in physical labor; able to write an essay coherently and not afraid to rebel from the prevailing tide of lunacy. The Left plays the long game. Conservatives need to reflect on this and learn from our opponents and take action-now!
