In a recent episode of Two Mikes, hosts Dr. Michael Scheuer and Colonel Mike delved into the intriguing world of international affairs with special guest Michael Waller. A distinguished expert in his field, Waller, who works at the prestigious Center for Security Policy in Washington, D.C., brought forth compelling insights from his newly published book, “Big Intel: How the CIA and FBI Went from Cold War Heroes to Deep State Villains.”
The title of Waller’s book is provocative, yet its contents offer a stark reality check. Delving into the transformation of once-revered agencies into what many perceive as sinister entities, Waller traces this evolution over a span of three to five years, from 1991 to 2024. The narrative he presents challenges conventional wisdom, revealing a complex web of historical events and covert actions that have shaped the trajectory of these agencies.
Waller begins by drawing connections between the actions of the CIA’s predecessor, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), during the Roosevelt administrations. He contends that under the guise of combating communism, the OSS and FBI engaged in dubious activities, including condoning British covert actions within the United States. This included defaming, blackmailing, and even potentially orchestrating the demise of loyal American citizens who opposed entering another European war.
One such notable figure was Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh, whose organization “America First” became a target of Roosevelt, Hoover, and British intelligence. Waller alleges a coordinated effort to falsely paint Lindbergh as pro-Nazi, highlighting the lengths to which those in power were willing to go to suppress dissenting voices.
Furthermore, Waller exposes the infiltration of communist ideologies within prestigious U.S. universities, citing figures like Herbert Marcuse and the Frankfurt School. These ideologies, he argues, have permeated the federal bureaucracy, leading to a pervasive anti-American mindset among bureaucrats. Over time, this infiltration has resulted in what Waller describes as the “murderous heart of the deep state.”
In “Big Intel,” Waller provides a comprehensive exploration of how the deep state was born, nurtured, and ultimately, its role in shaping the fate of the U.S. republic. The book offers readers both an enthralling narrative and an educational journey into the inner workings of American intelligence agencies and their historical contexts.
As listeners tuned into Two Mikes, they were treated to a thought-provoking discussion that challenges preconceived notions and sheds light on the complexities of U.S. intelligence and its impact on the nation’s trajectory. Waller’s insights serve as a wake-up call, prompting reflection on the past and consideration of the future in a world where truth and deception often blur the lines of reality.
