Today, The Two Mikes hosted Mr. Geoff Shepard, the author of the Nixon Conspiracy, and the country’s leading authority on the Watergate case.
Mr. Shepard graduated from Harvard Law School, worked in the Nixon White House, and was a member of the Watergate Special Prosecution Force.
Mr. Shepard provided a calm and detailed presentation of the Watergate affair, and described it as a situation in which Nixon was subjected to an overthrow led by the Democratic Party, supported by a solidly anti-Nixon national media, and acquiesced in by the majority of Republicans. He also described close cooperation between the leading attorneys of the Watergate Special Prosecution Force and Judge Sirica, who oversaw the investigation.
Mr. Shepard also said that the anti-Nixon prosecution team consisted of 60 lawyers, the first seventeen of whom had been in the Department of Justice during the Johnson and Kennedy administrations.
Listening to Mr. Shepard provided a brand new look at how unfairly justice treated Nixon. While there certainly was a bumbling break-in at DNC HQTRS and a subsequent attempt to cover-up that action, the process by which Nixon was deposed was not an exercise of equality before the law. Indeed, it is likely to strike some listeners as showing that the Democrats undid Nixon, just as they undid Trump, by ignoring both the law and any sense of fairness,
