Chad Caton joins this episode of The Jeff Dornik Show to discuss the division within the Republican Party that has become extremely evident after Matt Gaetz held Kevin McCarthy accountable by ousting him from his position as Speaker of the House.
Was this the right move? Does the infighting of the GOP make us look bad to the everyday voter as we approach 2024?
The Founding Fathers established America with checks and balances. They understood the danger of a two party system, so part of their strategy was to have an inefficient Washington DC that could not get a lot done unless there was actual consensus.
With the two-party system deeply entrenched into our political system, it’s not uncommon to see record amounts of legislation passed along party lines. The leader of the party dictates to the rest of the “lower” party members how to vote and they follow orders.
Enter Matt Gaetz and Co.
The accusations from the Republican Party is that they’re making us look bad to voters, given that we are “infighting.” Chad and I both have the same response… who cares? This is healthy.
In fact, the Founding Fathers wanted a dysfunctional Congress. They wanted robust debate and disagreement. This is the only way to negotiate and find consensus. If you can’t find consensus, nothing gets done… and that’s a good thing!
What we need to do is the begin to get more firebrands and principled conservatives that are loyal to the Constitution and the American people over political party. This starts at the local level, as Chad always reminds us.
Get involved in your local GOP. You can take over the party with just a handful of friends and family. The key is to simply show up. Organize. Strategize.
We can do this, and we still have time to save America. But if we wait to long, it could all go down the tubes… and you don’t want to see what that would look like.
